Rebecca's Top Five Red Lipsticks

My Top Five Red Lipsticks

Disclosure: I was sent some of these items (Marc Jacobs Oh!, Miley & Coloured Raine Vanity Raine) but I bought the other lipsticks myself. As always, my thoughts and opinions are my own.

Today I wanted to share my favorite red lipsticks. Who doesn't like a red lip? Since red is a color I reach for rather often, I figured I'd share with you what I consider my top five reds. Also, if you're looking to try out a red lip but don't know where to start, check out my tutorial on caring for your lips and how to apply lipstick!

  1. NARS Cruella

This is a lovely, blue based matte red lipstick. I really like the texture of this NARS Matte Velvet Pencil since it's matte but not quite as dry as Mac Ruby Woo. I wish the pencil was a twist-up instead of one you need to sharpen, but the pencil packaging does make it easy to throw into a handbag.  It's also in the Sephora birthday gift this year so I am sure many of you will be able to try it out. Overall, this is one of my favorite reds. The cool undertones will flatter cool and neutral undertones as well as really pop on those with warmer completions.

  1. Bite Sherry

This Cashmere Lip Cream by Bite is a fun, warm, bright red. I really enjoy the texture which has almost a soft creamy feel, much like the NYX soft matte lip creams, but it has a longer wear time. This is a much bolder red on my fair skin, but with its bright, warm undertones and full opacity this will complement deeper skin tones and those on the warm side, as well.

  1. Marc Jacobs Oh Miley! Le Marc Lip Creme

This is a new one for me but has fast become a favorite. It's a creamy, blue based red. It's the most comfortable to wear of these five since it has a cream finish, instead of a matte. It has a long wear time for a cream, about seven hours. This is a bit lighter shade of red than the others, so it works well for light or fair skin tones and will be very bold on deeper complexions.

  1. Coloured Raine Vanity Raine Liquid Lipstick

This is a liquid-to-matte lipstick that is a balanced red. This is a lipstick where your lips need to be in shape to wear, since it's a liquid-to-matte, but it will stay on your lips until you use an oil remover. This is also a color that will work for a range of undertones, as it is a balanced red. It's neither too blue or too yellow, so if you're unsure what red would be best for you, go for this balanced red.

  1. Mac Ruby Woo Retro Matte Lipstick

This is the first red lipstick I really loved. I had owned a few reds before, but they were never colors I really felt confident wearing. Ruby Woo has strong blue undertones which makes your teeth look very white, and for being such a rich red it still complements fair skin as a statement lip. The texture is very dry, so you will want to wear a primer first and make sure your lips are well hydrated and exfoliated. With such a dry texture you get a long wear time (6-8 hours), so it's worth it.

I hope you all liked hearing my favorite reds. Let me know what other "top lists" you'd like to see by posting down in the comments & also what your favorite red lip is!
